5 Common Causes of Prostatitis

5 Common Causes of Prostatitis

The prostate is a major gland in the male reproductive system. It produces seminal fluid, which transports and nourishes sperms. In prostatitis, the gland becomes swollen, inflamed, and tender. The most common cause of prostatitis is urinary tract bacterial infection. The bacteria from infected urine leak into the gland, hence causing the infection.

Although prostatitis causes can be identified in many cases, they may remain unidentified in some circumstances. Some of the risk factors for prostatitis include age, previous prostatitis, prostate biopsy, redundant foreskin, and phimosis. Apart from the risk factors, there are established causes of prostatitis. Therefore, it is prudent to understand them for effective mitigation and management of the disease:

1. Long term use of urinary catheters
Catheters are artificial tubes that are inserted into the body to act as ducts. Catheters can be used in medical conditions that impair normal drainage of urine from the bladder. Although they are helpful, they are associated with bacterial infections called catheter-associated urinary tract infections(CA-UTI). Bacteria may be pushed from the intestines into the bladder during the catheter insertion, or during the period the catheter is worn. Consequently, when the bacteria leak into the prostate, they cause prostatitis.

2. Infections in the bladder or urethra
The bladder is a sac-like organ that collects urine from the kidney. The urine moves down through a tube-like duct called the urethra during urination. If bacteria infect the bladder and the urethra, the infection may leak and access the prostate gland since the urethra passes through the gland. The contamination with bacteria can be acute or chronic. Therefore, early management with antibiotics is essential to prevent recurrence or resistance.

3. Previous prostate biopsy
Sometimes a sample of the ailing organ may be taken by the doctor for further diagnosis. Such a tissue sample is called a biopsy. For example, in suspected prostate cancer, a biopsy is taken from the prostate gland. The procedure may cause physical irritation to the gland, hence inflammation. Besides, if aseptic means are not employed during the procedure, bacteria may be introduced into the prostate, hence prostatitis.

4. Pelvic trauma or injuries
Trauma or injuries in the pelvis region can occur in many circumstances, including horseback riding and cycling. The trauma may cause the introduction of normal flora from other areas in the pelvic, especially the peritoneum, into the urinary tract and eventually to the prostate. In some cases, trauma or surgery in the lower abdomen may damage the nerves, thus contributing to the disease. Besides, if the trauma is not well managed, it may cause a urinary tract infection hence, prostatitis.

5. HIV/AIDS
HIV is a sexually transmitted virus. The virus can attack the prostate and thus cause symptoms of prostatitis. Besides, HIV/AIDS is an immunodeficiency state where the immunity of a person is compromised. Therefore, other systemic pathogens can leak into the prostate gland and cause prostatitis.

Prostatitis should be managed early to avoid its complications. You should suspect prostatitis if you have pain or difficulty during urination, bloody or cloudy urine, pain around the testicles or groin, frequent urination, and painful ejaculation during sex. Therefore, consequent comprehensive diagnosis and treatment are necessary. Besides, you can use Proaxil coupons RX. The supplement is good for maintaining prostate and bladder health.
