Superfoods to Reduce the Risk of Cancer

Superfoods to Reduce the Risk of Cancer

Cancer is an illness that causes the rapid, abnormal reproduction of cells within the body. There are many different cancer types, including breast cancer, lung cancer, leukemia, and cancer of the prostate. Individuals diagnosed with cancer tend to undergo treatment to slow down and stop the continuous growth of these cells. Treatment involves radiation, surgery, and/or a combination of lapatinib and chemotherapy as is the case with HER2 MBC treatment (Human epidermal growth factor receptor two positive metastatic breast cancer).

However, certain superfoods may help in cancer prevention:

1. Berries
These are well known to be rich in vitamin C, but that is not all they are good for. Many of them contain antioxidants, which have been proven to guard the body against cell damage. This cell damage could lead to numerous cancers like that of the skin, breasts, and lungs. Incorporating berries in your daily diet may be exactly what you need to reduce your chances of contracting this disease. Adding these to yogurts, cereals, oatmeal’s, or even making a berry smoothie is not only delicious and nutritious but gives your body what it needs to defend against cancerous cells.

2. Cruciferous vegetables
Vegetables are classified into five categories. Cruciferous vegetables fall into two of these categories, dark-green, and other vegetables. Examples of these vegetables are broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Brussel sprouts, and cabbage. These vegetables are rich in nutrients and are an immaculate source of fiber. Studies of these vegetables have revealed that they contain a chemical that prevents cancer development in several parts of the body, such as the stomach, mouth, and larynx. Compounds produced from the breaking down of this chemical help to prevent carcinogens from becoming active. They also prevent tumor blood vessels development and prevent these tumor cells from migrating within the body. You can put these vegetables into your soup, have them as a dish on the side, or enjoy as a salad with your favorite dressing to give your body the defense it needs.

3. Fatty fish
These fish are rich in vitamin D and omega-3s. These nutrients, as studies indicate, are linked with a low risk of contracting cancer. In particular, large consumption of fatty fish has been connected with reducing breast and kidney cancer. Omega-3 fatty acids especially are recommended in treating HER2 MBC. Fish of this variety are also said to be mackerel, herring, salmon, and sardines. Fish is already beneficial to our diets. Consider having it at least once a week to keep cancer at bay as well.

4. Walnuts
Nuts generally are beneficial to one’s health. In particular, walnuts distribute unique properties that put them ahead of their nut counterparts in relation to the study of cancer prevention. Compounds found within these nuts work in combination to reduce symptoms that may result in cancer, such as inflammation and oxidative stress. You may add these nuts to salads, yogurts, cereal, just about anything to optimize your health.

5. Legumes
Legumes are full of nutrients and are connected to lower cancer risk. The high level of fiber that beans, in particular contain, has shown to help prevent cancer of the colon. Phytochemicals found in beans also can protect against the damage of cells. The three types limit the creation of cells related to cancer, slowing tumor growths, and the increase in number of cancer cells.
